Creative Inspiration - Using up some of my stash

Good Morning all.

Hope that you have had a good start to the day.

Today I would like to share with you another layout I have created on behalf of Mad About Scrappin using  the paper range by Pink Fresh Studio called Up in the Clouds.

Once again I have played around with a Kraft card stock base for this layout. I have used some photos taken recently of my eldest daughter Yr12 formal. So here's the layout I have created to share....

I have stamped the base of the Kraft card stock with a graph stamp as I felt the Kraft background looked a little bare. I have then teamed the Kraft card stock with some of the pink patterned paper from the paper range that had the words I wanted to use as the title for my layout. I have matted the larger photo and then used two smaller Polaroid frames to frame two smaller photos I wanted to add to the layout. 

The kit came with this fun wood veneer tag. It was perfect to add a little accent to this layout. I added some black and white bakers twine to it which adds to the whimsical feel of this layout.

I have had a pile of chipboard die cut circles and circle frames in my stash for what seems like forever. So I have pulled them all out and covered them in the matching paper from this paper range to create a little bit of depth to the layout. They tied in nicely with the flairs and finished off the layout easily.

I had fun creating this layout to share and cannot wait to show you the next layout.

Creative Inspiration - Christmas Greetings to all

On behalf of Mad About Scrappin I would like to wish everyone a super special Christmas.

I hope that everyone has the opportunity to rest and relax even if it is just for a little while on this mad and crazy day of the year.

I know that I am feeling grateful to be able to share this special day with my children and parents this year. I am looking forward to seeing the smiles on my children's faces and will be soaking up the family time together.

I have a layout to share with you all today using some more of the Summer Vibes paper range by Simple Stories.

Now who says that you have to use Christmas paper to create a Christmas layout.... certainly not me!

Here's the fun layout I have created using a photo from Christmas 2014.

I have used a cream card stock as the base for this layout which I have stamped using a graph stamp randomly to add some detail in the background. I have also used a paper doily from my stash made from kraft paper. I have had it for ages and just haven't had a chance to play with them.

for the larger circles on the page I have adhered the soda pop lid print to some medium sized die cut chipboard circle to add some depth to the layout. I have then stamped a circle journal stamp to create a bit of interest behind the stamp and set the chipboard circle so the some of the stamped journal spot shows. I have then used some of the scraps of the mixed patterns in the range to create some Christmas baubles which I have added bakers twine bows to. It's a little hard to see but there even is a little bit of hand stitching on the layout to add a bit of detail here and there.

Finally I have added a kraft journal spot with the date the photo was taken and a flair to add a bit more dimension to the page. I have also stamped some matching Christmas trees onto the matching paper and hand cut then. These I then mounted using 3D foam dots. 

I quite like the feel of this Christmas themed layout created from paper that IS NOT Christmas themed. Why not think out the box every now and then.

Creative Inspiration - Week 23 2015

Good Morning..

Today I am sharing with you  a layout that I have created using this bright and bold paper range by MME - Wild Berry.

I was very lucky to be sent this paper to play with in this months kit. I couldn't wait to get into it as the colours really just pop out at you.

Here's this weeks layout in full.

Okay.. I have to admit that at first I may have felt a little intimidated by the bold large print of some of the paper range. However once I got cutting it up and mixing it around I found that it really worked well. I have also managed to use up some old tags from my stash that worked well for this. 

I really have layered up the mixed patterns in this layout. They all work so well together. I found some cute arrow tag stickers in my stash too that matched perfectly to add a bit of feature here and there to the layout too. Then tied the date to the page by framing it with a black mini Polaroid frame. super cute to play with. 

You can see the cute bird on a wire washi tape just peeking through there too that I was sent to play with too. I just love it and the colours of the birds work perfectly with this paper range. Helps too to create the whimsical look I wanted to record my daughters crazy birthday party fun. 

Quiet a fun layout to create using some fun paper.

Creating texture to a layout with ease

With the weather here in Adelaide being cold and miserable it has been the perfect weather to hide away in my scrap area and create.

Now.. I have been busy with many layouts for designs team work using all sorts of scrap booking paper ranges. Just for something different I wanted to just get away from what I have been creating with and make a major mess. So with that all in mind I decided that I wanted to create a layout using no patterned paper at all. 

So here's the full layout once I had finished it.

I love being able to create a base for my layouts. Most of all I love being able to create dimension to the base of my layout. To help me be able to achieve this I have used some Canson  410gsm Pasteboard as the base for my layout.

 Now it was a process that I did over two days to create the base due to the wet weather here. I started with using some Pebeo modelling paste and a leaf mask that I had in my stash. I was kinda rough with the application of the texture paste as I didn't want a perfect finish. Once the texture paste was dry I then gave the whole thing a coat of gesso to give it a good even base to paint over. 

I wanted to be able to create matching embellishments too so I have used some Canson water colour paper to create them. I have kept the colours a little bolder than the base I I didn't want them to get lost in the background. Plus because I was mixing up my own colours I was able to get the colours to match perfectly with the photo I wanted to use.

You can see the texture here that I have created using the modelling paste. The leaves have also been enhanced with how I have applied the paint. I have achieved the enhanced look by firstly applying the light aqua colour I mixed up. Whilst the paint was still wet I then applied a wash of slightly darker aqua. I then blended it all slightly using more water and hat my heat gun drying it as I applied more water.   

As you can see it almost give the base a glow look to the leaves with the lighter colours peaking through. 

Because of the random painting stokes I have done to create the base before I cut out the vines with the leaves they have a tonal mix of colour on them. To finish them off I have randomly stamped a graph stamp on them. This has helped the leaves stand out from the base colour I have created also. 

I loved being able to add so much dimension both with the Pebeo Modelling paste and with the embellishments I had created for this myself.

Once all the main elements of this layout were adhered I started on the embellishing to finish it off.  To tie it all together I have added a little bit of grey and white elements with paper doilies and a couple off graph journal cards I have printed with some digital stamps. 

So when it came time to add in some feminine touches I played around with some of my stamps and some water color paper to create some flowers. Once I had hand cut them I had a play with a few of them with some Mepxy markers to see what would work best with the stamp I had chosen. In the end I have just gone with highlighting the shadows that were on the stamp itself. I found that too much colour with the dove grey staz on was just too much for this layout. I then highlighted the edges randomly of some of the petals with a darker colour so that is slightly bled and then blended it with the lighter colour just slightly.  This has add just a hint of colour which was all I was looking for.

Creative Inspiration - Week 9 2015

Hello all.

Back this week to show you the last layout I have created using the last bits of this kit sent to me by Leanne at Mad About Scrappin.

So here's the layout I created ...

I had fun with this layout mixing up the patterns a bit. I have tied it all together by using a piece of kraft card stock as my base. I stamped the base of the kraft card stock using a graph clear stamp randomly using my hand as the block for it. 

I have layered it up a little for this layout using a mix of the patterns from the pack, a paper doily and some graph project life journal cards. 

I then finished it off with a washi tape boarder to finish it all off. 

I have mixed up the title a bit using a some of the matching alphas stickers from the set and word I have printed onto card stock which I have hand cut. I have then added a coat of dimensional magic to add some gloss and dimension.

I mixed up the embellishments a little with a mix of word stickers from the kit, a digital image I have printed onto white card stock, a kraft journal spot and some chalk board pennant flags I purchased at a Mad About Scrappin sale. 

Lastly just to show you that I do use up all my scraps...

 I created a pocket page (trading card size) for a pen pal over in America.

I love these pocket pages and such a great way to use up all the teenie little pieces I just cant part with.

Creative Inspiration - Week 5 2015

Hello again everyone.

Back this week to share with you the last framed layout I created as part of the donated scrap booking vouchers for my girls Calisthenics team. 

This would have to be my favorite of the two framed layouts I created. 

Here's the finished framed layout.

This framed layout features a lot of texture and dimension. I have used an older paper range that I had sitting in my stash.  

I have used a mix of card stock, paper doily and matching patterned paper to create the starting depths in this layout. I created the pennants using wood veneer shapes and covered them with the matching paper. I have then clustered them together using a mix of flowers from many Mad About Scrappin sales. I have been lucky enough to be able to get quite dimensional with the flowers as the frame is in a shadow box format.

You can see a bit more of the background here where I have used a stencil to mask the base card stock with a chicken wire fence look with white wash. I then hit the whole lime green card stock with some glimmer mists to match in aqua and melon. I finished off the floral clusters with some mixed pearl and clear sequins. They add a bit more of a feminine touch.

Here is a close up of the digital stamped 3x4 and 4x6 cards I created from some of the matching patterned paper. I finished the layout off with a mixed title using some acrylic alphas and some aqua glitter alphas.

I love how this turned out and am glad I have been collecting all my bits and pieces at every Mad About Scrappin online sale. It make creating easier when I have exactly what I need.

Creative Inspiration - Week 9

Good morning everyone.

Wow ! Another month end is upon us. So hard to believe how fast the month's are rolling by this year. 

Anyways.. I am back this week to share with you a layout I have created using this Photo Freedom Kit.

This week I have used the photo sleeve included in the kit to create a Project Life look layout. I must say now that I have been playing around with these kits for a while I am quite liking these kits. I am finding them a lot easier to use than when I first started. I am also finding that I am now scrapping more than one photo which was a rarity for me. 

So here's the full layout I created this week.

I love that this kit has a combination of 6'x4', 3'x4', 12'x12' patterned paper and stickers. It makes creating so much easier. I have used one of the 6'x4' title cards to create the base of my title for this layout. When creating this style of layout I like to have one of the photo sleeve spots as my title. 

I also like to use on of the photo sleeve spots for my journalling. I am finding that since starting this style of scrap booking I am now journalling more than I used to. I find though that I still don't like the journalling to be the feature of the layout. So on this layout I have journalling on the computer and printed it directly onto a graph printed card. I like to be able to mix up the fonts a little to to create a little interest. I have also found that I don't always have many 6'x4' landscape photos so but journalling on one half of the 6'x4' graph card I am able to add an extra 3'x4' portrait photo easily.

When creating these pages I tend to keep the majority of the 3'x4' photo sleeves for photos only. This time around I have matted my photos with some white card stock to tie them all in. because I didn't have any other smaller photos I wanted to use for this layout I have used one of the 3'x3' to create a sub title for the layout. By adding a paper doily and part of a glimmer misted frame it was done fairly easily. 

I have found that I like to add a little bit of embellishing on the photo itself. By cutting up some of the ornate frames I have added a piece to each photo with some washi tape and a hand cut heart mounted with 3D foam tape.

I am finding when creating this type of layout that I am using one of the 6'x4' photo sleeves for a full size photo. This would usually be the photo that normally I would have used to create a 12'x12' layout. It would be my favourite photo of the event/outing or people etc. Sometimes I edit the photo adding digital brushed words however this time around I have used washi tape, a piece of glimmer misted frame and a WOW laser cut chipboard word. 

My last card in this layout is usually another photo or I use it to sum up the layout itself. For this card I have used the plain coloured 12'x12' sheet. I have then randomly stamped it with butterflies using dove grey staz on. I found without the stamping the card was too pale for my liking to match in with the layout. I have then finished the card off with some washi tape, another ornate frame and a die cut chipboard tree.

Once again I have had a fun creating with this Photo Freedom kit from Mad About Scrappin.

Mad About Scrappin - Layout of the Week - Week 14

Back once again to share with you what fun I have been busy creating here.

 

This week I have tried something just a little different. With all the talk lately about using up scraps I though I would stick with the same theme and start using up some of the kits that I have partially used over the past few weeks when I was busy creating for the Royal Adelaide Show.

 

While sorting through these scraps I found that I still had plenty of an Authentique kit left that I had grabbed ages ago at a Mad About Scrappin Flog it Friday Sale. I had partially used the kit for a layout for the show and thought that I would have enough to get creative with it all over again.

 

So here's what I created.

Now... I did want a little bit of a different feel to this layout and just could seem to be able to choose which of the scraps I wanted to used for part of my base. So with that in mind I got a little creative with the scraps cutting them into random size strips ranging from 1/4" to 1" in width. Then I randomly adhered them to some scrap card stock on a slight slant across the card stock. I am quite happy with the end result. Even though I have a mix of patterns as my base because the Authentique paper range I used all colour matches it works together to create my background perfectly.
 

 

Included in this pack was a piece of muslin that I just had to use on this layout. Rather than creating flowers from it or adhering it neatly to the page, I decided to scrunch it up and adhere it underneath my photo and journal card so that a bit just poked out. I then set to work distressing it all a little. Just didn't feel that a neat edge would add to the look I wanted for this.
 

 

To finish it all off and make it a little more girlie I added in some flowers from the pack and my stash, ribbon and little bits of bling.

 

Had so much fun creating and using up some more of my stash I have had laying around dying to be used up.

Mad About Scrappin - Layout of the Week - Week 11

 

 Hello again.

 

Back this week to share with you another layout I have created especially for Mad About Scrappin.

 

This week I have played around with lots of stamps I have in my stash and also a piece of paper napkin to mix it up a little.

 

I have been loving playing with the "Well Played" paper range from Carte Bella. It is so versatile and love the colours.

 

So here's the full layout

By mixing it up with some of the stamps in my stash I have been able to add that little bit extra to the base paper I have used. Once again I have used a piece of patterned paper as the base of my layout. However to give the paper a bit of a differently look I have used some matching washi tape to create an uneven border to start with and then added some stamped images randomly where desired. I also lightly sanded the red journal card then double stamped it to tone down the brightness a little to match the base.

 

 Now I must say I was very lucky with this layout I just happened to have matching flowers to add to this layout that I had purchased from one of Mad About Scrappin's Flog It Friday sales.  By clustering them around my photo and grouping them with the journal tags I was able to add some extra colour.

 

My youngest daughter did think I was a little nuts when I was creating this layout however. To add a bit of height and texture to the page before I adhered anything I scrunched up a white paper napkin (just 1 ply) and adhered directly to the layout base. I then adhered everything else of top. I also added an old bingo card in to the mix of embellishment clusters. I had lightly sanded it to tone done the brightness of it.

 

The last party of this layout was adding in some twine and a few of the matching "Well Played" Carte Bella stickers. they finished the layout off nicely. I didn't add a title to this layout as felt the journal card said it all. Sometimes that is all the layout needs.

 

Had a blast playing with this layout. Super easy and nice and bright.
