Recycle.. Reuse.. Re purpose Challenge - Ideas Part 9

Here's the last list of ideas for things that you can find around the house and ways of using them for scrapbooking.

So here's Ideas Part 9:

1. Cups and Plates - Make great templates for circle shape that you may need. Lay them on your paper or cardstock, trace around it and away you go...You can also use the base of your cups for creating a cup spill stain on a LO or card for a distressed look add some ink/paint to bottom of cup and smear onto where you want the smear stamp.

2. Ice cream Sticks - Dip these into paint and then "stamp" onto cardstock to make your own journalling lines or borders.

3. Old Toothbrushes - Not only great for cleaning your Fiskars Clear stamps, but also are great for adding spatters of ink or paint to layouts/cards.

4. Plastic Milk Bottle Lids - make great little mini paint, water or glue pots. I especially use them when I am working with stamps and water colour pencils and just need a tiny bit of water. they are nice and flat and don't know over easily.

5. Plastic Fruit bag Mesh - makes a great stencil for when you are using glimmermist. Lay mesh on your layouts and spray away. Allow to dry then remove mesh.

Hope that you all got a few new ideas of what to with all those unwanted things around your house.

Recycle.. Reuse.. Re purpose Challenge - Ideas Part 8

Here's the today's list of ideas for things that you can find around the house and ways of using them for scrapbooking.

So here's Ideas Part 8:

1. Bread Bag Tags - Make great embellishments on pages. Attach patterned paper to the flat side to make up your own tags, layer them to great flowers.. the list for these is endless.

2. Playing Cards - Don't throw away those incomplete decks. Use them as embellishments on layouts/cards or even as a base for a mini album.. just add a ring and your down.

3. Puzzle Pieces - Add some patterned paper and you have little embellishments for your scrapbooking.

4. Pizza Boxes - The lids are just the right size to become the base of a layout instead of cardstock. Distress it and paint it for a real grungy feel. Plus these make great storage solution for storing Layouts if you don't have an album on hand.

5. Fabric Labels from clothing - Add these as tags/embellishments to layouts for that little bit of dimension. Or if it is a logo on a shirt (old one) your could also cut it out and use it too.

Check back in a few days for the last list of fun things to recycle from around your house.

Recycle.. Reuse.. Re purpose Challenge - Ideas Part 7

Here's the latest list of ideas for things that you can find around the house and ways of using them for scrapbooking.

So here's Ideas Part 7:

1. Old Jewellery - Sometimes that lost earring can come in handy. Can make a great embellishment or if it has some bling in it you could use it to jazz up your layout. Hanging earrings are great for OTP items too when you want something to hang.

2. Lace - Dig out your old lace scraps and use them as templates to mask a pattern onto your layout with ink.. or even add it for that something extra to a layout or card.

3. Buttons - Especially those you get when you purchase a new item.. I always keep them because you never know when you paper flower may need a centre or you want to jazz up a page with a button or two.

4. Plastic Stamp packaging sheets - I use both sides of the packaging from stamps as I store my tamps in cd cases. But I can't throw away the sheets the stamps came on. the side that has the design printed onto it makes great overlays like acetate and the other side if perfect for stamping onto also.

5. Paper coffee/tea cup holders - makes for an interesting layout. Why not theme your layouts around them or cup out things from the logo for an embellishment.

Still digging through my list of things to recycle around my house. How about you ?

Recycle... Reuse... Repurpose... - Layout Share 5

Tissues...Definitely not something I would like to recycle.. but re purpose.. that's fine with me. LOL.
So for this layout I decided to pull out my Fiskars circle template and trace some circles on tissues. I then create these tissue flowers with the circles by tracing many of them, stapling them together, scrunching and adding kindy glitz.

Close up of flowers

They were so much fun to make that I will definitely do them again for sure.

Why not give it go yourself and make your own embellishments from recycled items.

Don't forget to check out the Fiskars Blog to see what everyone else is doing.

Weekend Crop Wrap Up

Well.. another successful weekend crop for Fiskars ! We had so much fun that I was truly exhausted by the end of the day.

Everyone was nice and early and ready to go well before the kick off time of 10am.. I was still chasing kids through the shower when people started arriving..lol. But that was okay as everyone was happy to set themselves up in the spots for the day. After grabbing a cuppa we got straight into it. I certainly challenged the girls this month ! We started with the OTP item. Following the theme of recycle, re purpose and reuse this month on the Fiskars Blog we created a 6x6 mini album from Manilla Folders. I can still hear the ladies cursing at me for the noise we created with our Fiskars eyelet setters to bind the album !
OTP Item - Manilla Folder Album

Using the Manilla folder to create tabs and pages was fun. We also played around with water colour pencils, acetate and punches to create this unique little album. Plus I showed the girls to think outside the box with office supplies they could reuse from around the house.

After a break we headed into the cards for the rest of the day to wind down. We created some very quick and simple cards after having challenged them so much at the start of the day.
Cards -

I enjoyed designing these as I got to play with some water colour paper, kindy glitz and stamps that I hadn't used in a while. Plus we also used coloured card bases for the first time which was nice. Certainly creates a different look to the cards.

So all in all the day was a huge success. Everyone had a ball, made some create items and kept some good company. We welcomed a new face to this crop and also had some of our regulars return after having not attended for a while. Everyone was keen to create and learn. They all loved playing around with Fiskars tools and products and all are looking forward to the next crop in October.

I have a spare crop kit from the day to give away to 1 lucky reader... leave a comment here and I will draw a winner on Wednesday. You too could be creating the cards and mini album we made in your own home.

Cheers and Happy Scrapping, M x

Recycle.. Reuse.. Re purpose Challenge - Ideas Part 6

Here's the latest list of ideas for things that you can find around the house and ways of using them for scrapbooking.

So here's Ideas Part 6:

1. Plastic Beaded Bracelets - Raid the kids toy box of long forgotten toys. Beads from a toy bracelet look interesting hanging from ribbon on a mini album or perhaps use them as centre for flowers. The possibilities with these is endless.

2. Printed Shirts - While Hubby thinks these make great rags.. I see potential layouts..lol.. If it has a floral pattern on it use it as a background for layouts or rip a strip up and gather with a running stick and add to a layouts for some dimension.

3. Gift Ribbons - Whenever we get parcels for the kids from my husbands bosses they have really pretty fabric ribbon on it. It is a fight in this house who gets to use it..lol.. They are great for cards and layouts and they haven't cost you a cent!

4. Chipboard - I keep the packaging that comes with packs of patterned paper or used as packaging to make my own chipboard shapes and alphas.

5. Hang Tags - Some clothing come with some really amazing hang tags that I can't bear to throw away. Some come with the little ball chain too which are great for using with OTP items.

Still digging.. think I may be getting some where with all my recycling and re purposing here.. how about you ?

Recycle... Reuse... Repurpose... - Layout Share 4

Now as some of you may remember I had my 4th child earlier this year. Well I was sent some beautiful flowers by the wonder people at Fiskars Head Office and the Fiskars Ambassadors. Once again I saw a perfect way to record the special day. The flowers came with some really pretty plastic lace look wrapper that I couldn't help but recycle.

And here's what I did with the plastic wrapper, some Heidi Grace flocked paper, and Heidi Grace acrylic alphas.

Bit hard to photograph I am afraid due to the plastic, though I must say it was quite a lot of fun to use.

Recycle.. Reuse.. Re purpose Challenge - Ideas Part 5

Here's the latest list of ideas for things that you can find around the house and ways of using them for scrapbooking.

So here's Ideas Part 5:

1. Plastic packing from Cakes/ Biscuits - Use these with ink/paint to create interest on cardstock for a background. Also cut strips of the bumpy side and add to a layout as embellishments.

2. Wrapping from Flowers - Sometimes when you get flowers the plastic wrapper is patterned. this looks great when you use it as a layer on your layout. Create a whole new dimension and look.

3. Yarn/Wool - Got an old knitted jumper that you don't want any more ? Well the wavy wool makes a good addition to any layout. Even cutting small part as an embellishment looks great. Or blanket stitch the edges of a mini album with what you have pulled out.

4. Fabric Scraps - Make great backgrounds for layouts. You can also use to bind mini albums also by threading through holes you have punched and tie them into knots.

5. Plastic Mesh - Adds some dimension to a layout when added as a layer.

Stay tuned for some more fun ideas.

I know it's going to be fun day.. full of laughter and good company.. plus some fun Fiskars tools to play with. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

And they are back...

Just thought I would pop a quick post before printing off the rest of the crop instructions for the Barossa Ladies...

My show entries are all back.. And here are all my winning entires with their ribbons...

They didn't give ribbons last year.. nice to have a little momento of the win.. plan on putting the ribbon into the album behind the layout just for interest sake.
I even got a message from the judge (Tracy) on the back of my Best in Show layout about the journalling congratulating me on what I had journalled about. That was very sweet of her and I thank her for her comments.

And to my lovely ladies that are coming this weekend for the Fiskars crop that have asked..."Yes.. you can see them when you come in on the weekend ..lol"

Okay back to it.

Recycle... Reuse... Repurpose... - OTP Share

Who says you have to throw things away when you are finished with them.. especially if the still could be of some use. Here is another example..

I had some old business card holders laying around and made up this cute little mini brag book for my mother in law. It will hold about 25 9 x 13 photos so it was perfect for this. Because of the plastic sleeves I have kept the embellishing simple thus making the whole album very quick to make. I also used up a pile of Heidi Grace Orchard range paper scraps too. Perfect little gift that's for sure.

Recycle... Reuse... Repurpose... - Layout Share 3

Recycling can sure be fun. I love being able to clear things out and make something from them.
Found some old felt bits for this one... teamed them with my Fiskars Ultra Shape Cutter and my Flowers 1 template and this is what I came up with. I cut the flowers out of scrap paper first then laid the "pattern" on the felt and cut it out with my micro tip scissors. Recycled some ribbon scrap and left over Heidi Grace paper flowers in the process too.

Love that this is a real touchy feel type of layout now.

Recycle.. Reuse.. Re purpose Challenge - Ideas Part 4

Here's the latest list of ideas for things that you can find around the house and ways of using them for scrapbooking.

So here's Ideas Part 4:

1. Calendars - Photos and designs on some of these make great background for punching shapes out of. Especially if you give them some dimension with some dimensional magic.

2. Aluminium Foil - Stamp on it with Staz on and all to a layout on a background. Also great for using with your stylus and Fiskars embossing templates for an embossed background.

3. Twist Ties - Can be used to attach buttons, charms or tags to layouts

4. Greeting Cards - create a background with your punches and old cards. Cut out designs from cards and add as embellishments to pages.

5. Vouchers that have run out of date - Create some interest on a layout. Especially the coffee and shopping ones when doing a layout about your day.

Hope that you all got a few new ideas of what to with all those unwanted things around your house.

Recycle... Reuse... Repurpose... - Layout Share 2

Another layout showing you what you can do recycling some left over transparency from the study, embossing powder and some of my favourite Heidi Grace - Wild Daisy Road clear stamps.

Took the left over transparency and stamped the flower scroll image then embossed it all with silver embossing paper. Then I cut away the excess and adhered it directly to my cardstock. Added some bling to the flowers and it complimented the layout completely.

It's as easy as that. Don't forget to check out the Fiskars Blog to see what everyone else is doing.

2. Maps - Keep your maps from your travels abroad and add them to travel layouts or even on masculine cars that can be hard to do at time.

3. Jean Pockets - Make great pockets on layouts to add some hidden journalling in.

4. Plastic Veggie Bags - The shirred kind that is.. make great flower bases.. gather together with an old button to make a flower.

Recycle... Reuse... Repurpose... - Layout Share 1

Okay... so I thought it would be an idea to show you what I find hanging around my house that I couldn't resist playing with. Yes.. everyone often jokes I will scrap them if they don't keep moving... like that would really help.. them staying still and all ! lol.

So..Remember how I mentioned I love to recycle.... well here's a perfect example of what I get up to...Recycling a bit of cardstock from packaging and a chocolate wrapper.

And .. YES ! the page smells just as yummy as it looks... MMMMM Dark Peppermint Chocolate ! YUM.

Yes.. as you can see I have actually used a chocolate wrapper on my page !
I even hand cut the title myself from my stash of recycled cardstock with my trusty faithful Fiskars fingertip knife. Then I have the title a lick of paint and the layout was all done.

Perfect way to capture just as the layout title suggests "The Simple Things".

Why not see what you can come up with today from your recycled stash.

Recycle.. Reuse.. Re purpose Challenge - Ideas Part 2

Here's the latest list of ideas for things that you can find around the house and ways of using them for scrapbooking.

So here's Ideas Part 2:

1. Cereal Boxes - Use your punches to punch out shapes for embellishments. Also interesting parts of titles on the boxes for interest.

2. Soft Drink Tabs - Look great as ribbon buckles or slides. Dunk them in some embossing powder to change their colour with ease. Or perhaps colour them with a permanent marker or ink.

3. Fly Screen - Looks great on a masculine layout as a layer. Or even use it with ink/paint for create a background.

4. Old books from your personal library - why page a fortune of those old book pages. Everyone generally has a few books in their personal library they don't use any more. Dip the pages in coffee and allow to dry. You then with have some antique looking pages to play with for layouts and card.

5. Paper Chocolate Wrappers - Not only look good but smell good on a layout too..lol.. use with punches to great an interesting look on a layout too.

My stash of recycling here seems endless. How about yours?

Happy news.. but beware a bit of an emtional post.

Well you know how I mentioned in the post earlier that I had gotten first place for my LO entry in the journalling section of the Royal Adelaide Show...

I was a little shocked when I arrived at the show and couldn't find it at first.. it wasn't anywhere I could see it at all on display with the scrapbooking. I became quite upset and ALMOST went to find someone from admin to find it. Okay.. may seem a little extreme I know.. it is only a scrapbooking LO some of you may say.. But that is only half right. This is a very special layout to me and was extremely hard to do.

So.. the exciting news about this layout and why it wasn't where it was suppose to be... I got BEST OF SHOW FOR SCRAPBOOKING for it !!! Huge shock.. wasn't sure how it would be received due to the journalling and all. It was displayed in a separate cabinet with all the other best of show items. I am so excited.

Here's why... here's what the journalling reads...warning you again... MAY CAUSE TEARS..
It has taken me this long to be able to scrap about my first child. It may seem like a strange thing that is takes this long to finally be able to get around to doing this, but I don’t feel that I have been in the right place to be able to write this until now.
Finding out I was pregnant was certainly not what I had expected to find out when I went the doctor. I was 21 years old, engaged and working at a busy job in the hospitality industry. Life seemed perfect. I lead a busy work and social life, which left little time for anything else. I had been unwell for quite a while and went to the doctors to find out what was going on. That’s when my world was turned upside down.
Finding out I was pregnant was a huge surprise. I had problems with my cycle and had no signs or symptoms of pregnancy for me to suspect anything. (Though realistically now when I look back I was so busy then that I didn’t notice quite a few things happening in my life then) I was told that I was 4 months gone and I was losing amniotic fluid. After scans I was told all would be okay. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t wish that that would have been true. I am sure that if we could all turn back the clock we would change something along the way.
Well I was determined that having this baby wasn’t going to change my life and the way that I had planned things. Boy was I wrong! I had planned to go back to work straight after having the baby and life would go on as normal. Plans continued for my big lavish wedding and my parents came up from Adelaide to visit me in Cairns. We told them the news when they arrived and we were all excited. Life went on as normal. Working in the hospitality industry I worked long hours on my feet. I worked from 10am till about 1am the next morning some nights. I was still losing amniotic fluid, but being very naïve and believing that all was well, thought nothing of having daily losses of large quantities of fluid. One particular night I came home from work and felt a little off. It was about 12 midnight, when I came out of the toilet to ask our female boarder if it was normal to loose blood during a pregnancy. She said “no” and we headed to the emergency department of local hospital. Our families were called and we waited at the hospital to find out what was going on. After much discussions between the doctors, scans and checks it was decided I would be flown down to Townsville Women’s Hospital for specialist care by the Royal Flying doctors immediately. I knew in my heart then that things were not okay or normal in any way. Scans showed so little because there was so little fluid. The feeling of being in the Townsville hospital seemed so unreal. I remember the feeling of it all like it was just yesterday. My parents came down to Townsville and stayed with me. Without them I would have been very alone and I needed someone desperately. I think I knew then that my fiancé wasn’t going to be there for me but as they say love is blind. The counselors at the hospital were amazing. It was never said by either them or the doctors there that my baby wouldn’t make it. Though I knew deep down inside that things in my world would never be as I hoped. I think that for the week that I was there that life seemed to just float around me like I had my head in the clouds. It all seemed so unreal.
I remember the day that I went into labor so well. Almost like it was yesterday. I know the day was cool and I was wearing a flannel nightie I had been uncomfortable all day though didn’t think anything of it. My parents had visited all day despite the fact that my father had been quite ill. They had brought me in some caramel ice cream as a treat to cheer me up. My mum says that she remembers when she got back to their motel room that she knew something was up and laid her clothes out for the next day incase. I know that it was busy in the labor ward that night. Both the birthing rooms were full and I had to wait in a side cubicle when they brought me up from my room. They kept asking if there was anyone I wanted them to call and knowing my Dad was ill I said no. From that minute on things floated past me so fast. Before I knew it my son was in the world at 1.52am on the 24th of July 1996. But instead of feeling joy and happiness I was scared and alone. No matter what had been done to stop him from coming into this world he arrived at 27 and half weeks. I didn’t get a chance to see him at all as he was whisked off to the neonatal ward. The next thing I knew I was showering and being taken back to my room.
When my parents arrived after he had been born I still hadn’t seen him. I was so scared to see him. I didn’t want to get attached, as I knew that he was not good. I guess I thought if I didn’t see him it wouldn’t affect me. I was given photos of my son and it was quite scary to see all the tubes that he was attached to. He was so small and all I wanted to do was protect him. I went down with my Mum to see my son for the first time. That was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. Not being able to make him feel better and hold him hurt. I also knew from what the doctors said that he wasn’t good but seemed to be fighting. My fiancé finally arrived at 12 noon just as my parents were going to leave to get some lunch. Mum came back before we got a chance to head to the nursery to tell us to get down there as the doctor had said our son had taken a turn for the worst. We organized to have him baptized by the hospital’s priest. After discussions with the doctors the decision was made to turn off the machines. Our son was sedated to make him comfortable, dressed beautifully and given to us to hold while he passed away.
I have many pictures of my beautiful son, thanks to the lovely team at the Townsville hospital. They made this time for me bearable. They understood how I felt and exactly what I needed. The time that I was able to spend with my son while he passed away was very special. I will never forget how peaceful he looked, how soft his skin was and how tiny he felt in my arms.
They say that time heals wounds. I believe that time makes it possible to be able to feel better. Nothing will ever replace my first born, nor should anything replace him. Things do happen for a reason though at the time we may not understand why, in time we will. I have been blessed now to have 4 happy and healthy children and a wonderful new husband who have also changed my life forever just like my first-born.
For my angel in heaven, Jerem Steven.

Okay.. if you made it this far without a box of tissues and I haven't bored you to death with my life story... that was why that layout was so important to me. It took me a box and half of tissues to write it.. but I felt sooo much better after having finally done it... long time coming.

Okay.. back to the real world now.. other work to get done before heading up to finish off crop kits.

Cheers and TFL, M x

Toot Toot!!

Okay went to the show yesterday.. got home feeling extremely stuff from walking ALL day and dragging the four kids plus an extra ( Jhane's friend Rachel) around the show all day. All were extremely well behaved and we had a really good day.

So.. went and checked out the scrapbboking stuff to start with. I can now share which of my layouts got what.. as I was silly enough NOT to record which one's I put with what entry card ! lol..

In Class 1200 - Children - I came fourth with this LO :

In Class 1203 - Heritage - I came third with this LO:

In Class 1205 - Journalling - I came first and third with these LO's:

And in Class 1206 - OTP - I came second with this:

So excited to see them up there too. Plus we were also excited because Jhane entered two classes in the show also. She entered in the Royal Adelaide show Scout competition into 11 to 14 years photography and drawing. For her drawing she came first and for her photography she came second. So proud of her. Perhaps another budding artist I reckon !

Okay.. better go... check out my next post about something extra special !

Recycle.. Reuse.. Re purpose Challenge - Ideas Part 1

Okay as I promised I thought I would give you all a few ides of what to do with those unwanted items around the house.. the things you call junk or "think" are rubbish... well think again !

Each couple of days I will give you a list of 5 items and ideas of how to use them.

So here's Ideas Part 1:

1. Bubble wrap - you can use bubble wrap brushed with paint as a stamp to press onto cardstock to make your own paper

2. Paper tubes (paper towel/ toilet rolls) - Dip these into paint and then "stamp" onto cardstock to make your own backgrounds.

3. Cardboard from calendars - makes great embellishments. Add a sticker and cut around it at some kindy glitz and 3d foam and you've made you own 3D embellishment.

4. Thick cardboard - make your own wavy ruler by cutting out a wavy line on your cardstock. Great for when you want to write on a wavy line as it all end up even without having to draw a line to write on and smudge. (speaking from experience..lol).

5. Old Foam mouse pads - make great stamps.. cut out designs on mouse pad and use with acrylic paint.. you'll have a stamp you can wash and reuse.

Back in a few days with some more fun ideas.

Check out the amazing things the Ambassadors are doing on the blog for this months theme.

Busy Busy..

Okay here's another reason I have been so busy laterly... I can share these now 'cause the results are finally online. I decided this year to enter some of my work into the Royal Adelaide Show. Was fun to do these thats for sure. Some of the subjects for each class I wasn't that keen on and perhaps I won't do them again if I enter next year. But you learn thats for sure. I also entered two entries per class which was the maximum allowed. Plus the fact I also made new layouts for each and played around with Photoshop on some of the photos at the same time. Quite a lot of work really considering I left it until the last few weeks to get them all done!

So here they are:

Class 1200 - Single or Double LO - Children

Class 1201 - Single or Double LO - Travel

Class 1202 - Single or Double LO - Wedding/Special Occassion

Class 1203 - Single or Double LO - Heritage/History

Class 1204 - Single or Double LO - Open Subject

Class 1205 - Single or Double LO - Journalling or no photo

Class 1206 - OTP Item

Class 1207 - Two Handmade Cards

Not sure off which Layouts got what.. will know more after we have been to the show on Sunday.. just know that I got 1 first, 1 second, 2 thirds, and a forth. So if your heading to the showing why not go and check them out and what everyone else did.

Cheers M x
